FADE IN:
It was a freezing cold and windy day in February 2001. On my way to a big audition in the middle of a Monday morning 34th street hustle and bustle. I only had 7 minutes to get there. I couldn't run, after all it was icy and wearing 5" heels did not help, but they were perfect for the part. I was freezing my a!# off. It was all for the part of "Lady".
I got there with 1 minute to spare and proceeded to sign in. Guess what? There were 250 actresses on the list. I glanced around the room thinking to myself, it's a shame they have all wasted their time. As I sat in the waiting room, waiting and waiting...I had lots of time to read and re-read the sides. I was getting a bit anxious, what's taking so long, there was no one else waiting it was my turn, my time, and I was ready for it. So I got up and walked over to the door, as I was about to knock, the door suddenly opened and I heard the words "number 251". I walked in, sat down, crossed my legs and just like that...Lady arrived. She was calculated, sarcastic, ambiguous with a psychopathic twist.
I had become one with this female version of Patrick Bateman, Christian Bale's character from American Psycho. I nailed it!
An acting coach once said to me, "Amore when you are in front of the camera, you must become one with it. Let nothing come between you and the camera". I must admit that as a performer it is not always easy to do that. But when you do it is like an epiphany.
